Crop Progress in Shandong Province Update Report

1. Qingdao    

Planted Area: It is estimated that total planted area of 2013 crop reached 81200 hectare, 1.75% less than 2012 Crop

Crop Progress: Plantation ended in early May, overall precipitation in May through to July is more than previous crop year, 
which resulted in quick growth of the sprout and fewer pods per stem than last crop, however, in shells are developing well 
despite the excessive rain falls, although rotten in shells can also be found in same field. If it remains dry and clear before 
harvest, we can expect a fair crop in Qingdao areas.

Harvest is expected to start from mid September, some dry fields may be harvested earlier

Mainly Virginia type in Qingdao area, Flower type is mainly planted in Laixi, Jimo, while in Pingdu, Jiaonan and Jiaozhou,Darli type is more widely planted

2. Weihai

Planted Area: It is estimated that total planted area of 2013 crop is 59100 hectare, 2.89%less than 2012 Crop

Crop Progress: The situation is similar to that of Qingdao, excessive rainfalls from May to July resulted in quick growth of sprouts and fewer 
pods than previous crop, The dry weather in August caused more problems to hilly areas than to flat fields, in shells are smaller and more 
immatured pods can be found in hilly areas.

Harvest is expected to start from September 10th, Yield is expected to be less than last crop, and I personally is concerned that yield may 
be below average in the Peninsula area

3. Yantai

Yantai planted about 107,000 hectares of peanuts, 2% drop from 109,000 hectares in 2012crop, mainly Traditional Virginia type is
 planted in this area, which is popular among Japanese customers as Weihai origined ones

New crop encountered too much rain falls as well, average 8-10pods per sprout, fewer than last year, in shells is smaller, a reasonable 
percentage of immatured in shells may result in smaller percentage of jumbo ones.

Overall crop situation in above referred regions is considered no better than a fair crop, there will be more information about yield after 
harvest started, the forecasted dry weather shall be helpful to harvest, and natural dry of peanuts, then we can be optimistic about the 
quality-less mould and low risk of aflatoxin can be expected.

New crop is now available from Henan, Jiangsu province and South part of Shandong, which is now mainly targeting local edible market-to 
be prepared for the forth coming Moon Festival, exporters are watching changes in the market but not prepared to enter the market yet. Average 
Moisture of new crop is about 10-12%. Market started at a level similar to end of old crop but already dropped by about RMB2-300/MT(US$35-50/MT) 
due to high moisture of weak demands from local market.
